Story - கதை

The Rapido the hare and the Sluggy the tortoise lived near a pond in a jungle happily.

ஒரு காட்டில் ஒரு குளத்தின் அருகே ரேபிடோ என்ற முயலும், ஸ்லஹி என்ற ஆமையும் மகிழ்ச்சியாக வசித்து வந்தன.

One day Rapido went to visit his uncle living on the other side of the pond. On the way, it saw Sluggy walking sluggishly.

ஒரு நாள் ரேபிடோ குளத்தின் மறுகரையில் வசிக்கும் தனது மாமாவைப் பார்க்கச் சென்றது. வழியில், ஸ்லஹி சோம்பலாக நடப்பதை அது கண்டது.

Hi, Sluggy, Where are you going?

ஹாய், ஸ்லஹி, நீ எங்கே போகிறாய்?

Hi, Rapido, Good morning. How are you? I am going to meet my friend living on the other side of the pond.

ஹாய், ரேபிடோ, காலை வணக்கம். எப்படி இருக்கிறாய்? குளத்தின் மறுகரையில் வசிக்கும் என் நண்பனை நான் சந்திக்கப் போகிறேன்.

I am fine. I too go to that side to visit my uncle. But can you get over there?

நான் நன்றாக இருக்கிறேன். நானும் அந்த பக்கம் தான் என் மாமாவைப் பார்க்கப் போகிறேன். ஆனால் உன்னால் அங்கு போக முடியுமா?

"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh.

"நீ எங்காவது போய் சேருவாயா?" என்று ஒரு பரிகாச சிரிப்புடன் கேட்டது.

"Yes, I used to visit my friend every Sunday" replied the Tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it."

"ஆமாம், நான் ஒவ்வொரு ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமையும் என் நண்பனைப் பார்க்க செல்வேன்," என்று ஆமை பதிலளித்தது, "நீ நினைப்பதை விட சீக்கிரமாக நான் அங்கு செல்வேன். நான் உன்னுடன் ஒரு பந்தயத்தில் ஓடி அதை நிரூபிப்பேன்."

The Hare was much amused at the idea of running a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing he agreed. So the Fox, who had consented to act as judge, started the race.

ஆமையுடன் பந்தயத்தில் ஈடுபடும் யோசனை குறித்து முயல் மிகவும் வியப்படைந்தது, ஆனால் வேடிக்கைக்காக அது ஒப்புக்கொண்டது. எனவே நடுவராகச் செயல்பட சம்மதித்த நரி, ஓட்டப்பந்தயத்தைத் தொடங்கி வைத்தது.

The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay down under a banyan tree to take a nap until the Tortoise should catch up.

முயல் விரைவில் பார்வையிலிருந்து வெகு தொலைவில் சென்றது, மேலும் முயலுடன் பந்தயத்தில் ஈடுபடுவது எவ்வளவு அபத்தமானது என்பதை ஆமையை ஆழமாக உணர வைக்க, ஆமை அதை அடையும் வரை ஒரு ஆலமரத்தின் கீழ் ஒரு குட்டித் தூக்கம் போட அது படுத்துக் கொண்டது.

The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal. The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not overtake the Tortoise in time.

இதற்கிடையில் ஆமை மெதுவாக ஆனால் சீராகச் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தது, சிறிது நேரத்திற்குப் பிறகு, முயல் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த இடத்தைக் கடந்தது. ஆனால் முயல் மிகவும் அமைதியாகத் தூங்கியது; இறுதியாக அது விழித்தெழுந்தபோது, ஆமை இலக்கை நெருங்கிவிட்டது. இப்போது முயல் வேகமாக ஓடியது, ஆனால் ஆமையை சரியான நேரத்தில் முந்த முடியவில்லை.

The Fox the judge declared that, Sluggy the tortoise won the race.

நடுவர் நரி, " ஸ்லஹி ஆமை பந்தயத்தில் வென்றது" என்று அறிவித்தார்.

The hare felt ashamed of itself for mocking the tortoise and said "Congratulations Sluggy! and I am sorry", to the tortoise.

ஆமையை கேலி செய்ததற்காக முயல் தன்னை நினைத்து வெட்கப்பட்டு, ஆமையிடம் "வாழ்த்துக்கள் ஸ்லஹி! என்னை மன்னிக்கவும்" என்று சொன்னது.

"Ok. Anyone can win if they work with preseverance.", Sluggy The Tortoise said.

"பரவாயில்லை. விடாமுயற்சியுடன் உழைத்தால் யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் வெல்லலாம்." என ஸ்லஹி ஆமை கூறியது.

"Yes. I agree. You have proved it", said Rapido the Hare.

"ஆமாம். நான் ஒப்புக்கொள்கிறேன். நீங்கள் அதை நிரூபித்துவிட்டீர்கள்", என ரேபிடோ முயல் கூறியது.

"Ok. My friend will be waiting for me. I am leaving. Bye.", Sluggy The Tortoise said and left.

சரி. என் நண்பர் எனக்காகக் காத்திருப்பார். நான் கிளம்புறேன். பை. என ஸ்லஹி ஆமை கூறிவிட்டுக் கிளம்பியது.

The Hare too said, ‘Good Bye and left’

ரேபிடோ முயலும் 'குட் பை' சொல்லிவிட்டு கிளம்பியது.

Moral:

Slow but steady wins the race.

மெதுவாக ஆனால் உறுதியாக இருப்பவர் பந்தயத்தில் வெற்றி பெறுகிறார்.
