Tenses - Rules and Examples using the Verb 'TAKE'
English tenses show when an action happens (past, present, future) and its duration/completion (simple, continuous, perfect, perfect continuous), creating 12 common verb forms.
On this page you can learn how the four major types of English tenses work — simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous. Each set of tense forms is explained with sample sentences in English, along with Tamil meaning to help Tamil speakers understand how different English tenses are used in everyday spoken English.
Simple - தனிவினை
Simple tenses in English are the basic forms for present, past, and future actions. They can describe habits, facts, repeated actions, or events, without emphasizing the duration of an action.
Simple Tenses in English நிகழ்காலம், கடந்தகாலம் மற்றும் எதிர்காலச் செயல்களுக்கான அடிப்படை வடிவங்களாகும். அவை ஒரு செயலின் கால அளவை வலியுறுத்தாமல், பழக்கவழக்கங்கள், உண்மைகள், மீண்டும் மீண்டும் நிகழும் செயல்கள் அல்லது நிகழ்வுகளை விவரிக்கப் பயன்படுகின்றன.
1.1 Simple Present - நிகழ்காலத் தனிவினை
The simple present tense is used to express habits, general truths, repeated actions, instructions/directions or unchanging situations.
Example: You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left.
Simple Present - Rules
- I/We/You/They - உடன் base form of the verb (V1)வரும்.
- He, She, It or a singular noun - உடன் o, ch, sh, ss, x, zz-ல் முடியும் நிகழ்கால வினைகள் வரும் பொழுது es சேர்க்க வேண்டும்.
z-ல் முடியும் நிகழ்கால வினைகளுடன்
zes சேர்க்க வேண்டும்.
மற்ற வினைகளுடன் s சேர்க்க வேண்டும்.
For most verbs in the simple present, we generally add 's' to the base form. For verbs ending in o, ch, sh, ss, x, or zz, add 'es'. For verbs ending in a consonant + y, change y to i and add 'es'. For verbs ending in a vowel + y, just add 's'.
Examples:
- walk → walks
- eat → eats
- do → does
- undergo → undergoes
- watch → watches
- wash → washes
- pass → passes
- fix → fixes
- quiz → quizzes
- buzz → buzzes
- He, She, It or a singular noun - உடன்
y-ல் முடியும் வினைகள் வந்தால்,
y-க்கு முன் மெய்யெழுத்து இருந்தால் y-ஐ மாற்றி
ies
சேர்க்க வேண்டும். y-க்கு முன் உயிரெழுத்து இருந்தால் y-ஐ மாற்றாமல்
s
சேர்க்க வேண்டும்.
If y is preceded by a consonant, add ies:
- fly → flies
- cry → cries
- fry → fries
- study → studies
But when y is preceded by a vowel (a, e, i, o, u), simply add s:
- play → plays
- enjoy → enjoys
- buy → buys
