5. Time Expressions - காலத்தைக் குறிக்கும் சொற்றொடர்கள்

Present Perfect Tense often uses indefinite or recent time adverbs:

  1. already: ஏற்கனவே
  2. just / recently: இப்பொழுதுதான் / சமீபத்தில்
  3. yet: இன்னும் (எதிர்மறை/வினா வாக்கியங்களில்)
  4. so far / up to now: இதுவரை
  5. ever / never: எப்பொழுதாவது / ஒருபோதும் இல்லை

6. Present Perfect vs. Simple Past

Understanding the connection to the present:

Simple Past (V2):

Used for completed actions at a specified time in the past (e.g., yesterday, last week, in 2022).

Example: I put the files on his desk yesterday.
நான் நேற்று கோப்புகளை அவரது மேஜை மீது வைத்தேன்.

Present Perfect (have/has + V3):

Used when the action is completed, but the exact time is not mentioned and the present effect matters.

Example: I have put the files on his desk.
நான் கோப்புகளை அவரது மேஜை மீது வைத்துள்ளேன். (அவை இன்னும் அங்கேயே இருக்கின்றன)

7. Common Mistakes - பொதுவான தவறுகள்

Do not use exact past time adverbs (like yesterday, last week, in 2020) with the Present Perfect Tense. Use Simple Past Tense instead when specifying precise past time.

  • ❌ I have put the book on the table yesterday.
  • ✅ I put the book on the table yesterday. (Simple Past - exact time specified)
  • ✅ I have put the book on the table. (Present Perfect - time not specified)
  • ❌ She has putted the keys away.
  • ✅ She has put the keys away. (V3 for 'put' is 'put', never 'putted')
  • ❌ He have put the files in order.
  • ✅ He has put the files in order. (Use 'has' with singular subjects like He, She, It)

8. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - அடிக்கடி கேட்கப்படும் கேள்விகள்

1. What is the basic formula for Present Perfect Tense?

The structure is: Subject + have / has + V3 (Past Participle).
• Affirmative: I have put.
• Negative: I haven't put.
• Interrogative: Have you put?

2. Why is 'put' used as V3 instead of 'putted'?

The verb put is an irregular verb whose three forms are identical: V1 (put), V2 (put), V3 (put). Words like putted are incorrect in standard English grammar.

3. Can I use 'yesterday' with Present Perfect?

No. Specific past time references like yesterday, last month, two days ago, in 2020 cannot be used with Present Perfect. Use Simple Past Tense instead.
